Pantone Colours 2021

Pantone colours for 2021

Pantone 2021 forecasters have chosen not one but two shades for 2021. Seems fitting in the current climate; Illuminating is a bright buttercup yellow and Ultimate Grey, evoking natural beach pebbles.

American colour company Pantone say their choices this year are “a message of happiness supported by fortitude.”

It is the first time in over a decade that a shade of yellow has been chosen, and why two shades? Well because they highlight how different elements come together to show a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.

To help you recreate these colours at home, we’ve shone the spotlight on a few of our favourite interior products:

Barneby Gates – Horse Trellis Wallpaper & Fabric

A timeless, modern stylish trellis design wallpaper – elegant from a distance, slightly subversive up close – this would look great in a hallway perhaps – the yellow is punchy pared with the lovely warm grey. Horse Trellis is also available as a fabric and wallpaper and also in a more muted shade.

Mille Feuille – Raoul Dufy – Christopher Farr

One of Mister Smith’s favourites – Large stylised banana leaves printed onto 100% linen punctuated by striking yellow accents – the large scale design makes this fabric suitable for cushions, curtains, upholstery and this design is also available as hand printed wallpaper sold by the metre.

Rather than painting an entire room yellow, you may want to try starting with grey paint. Now Grey paint is notoriously difficult to get right – grey it seems is never grey and we often we hear our DIY customers complaining of a grey room being tinged with purple, or green ..

A fantastic grey paint which never lets us down and magically creates the perfect soft shade of grey in any light is Zoffany Quarter Silver  we love it in the thick chalky elite emulsion.

Once you have your fabric and paint colour sorted out, focus your attention on the flooring – a large area rug with a bright yellow border perhaps? Or how about this cheerful carpet?

Loved by The Sunday Times, cool flooring brand Alternative Flooring have collaborated with the wonderful textile designer Margo Selby to produce a range of colourful bright carpets, one of which is this sunny striped carpet; 100% wool, you cant go wrong.

If after all this, you decide that yellow really isn’t your bag – consider banishing the darkness with a small flash of yellow in the form of a classic Anglepoise lamp

Or invest in an incredibly realistic bunch of dried Craspedia blooms to brighten up an uneventful corner. We love the quality and hyper realism of these dried Craspedia, courtesy of our lovely friends over at Fox Flowers
